the work changed

the exhibition changed the work completely

I wanted to exhibit the piece on glass between going inside and outside next to a door

the public would feel the peace from one side to the other, make movements themselves through thresholds one side to the other and still holding into a transparency because of the window as a film projection screen

the piece was supposed to have been a moving image bombardment with sound through headphones

A small amount of VoiceOver

expressing a feeling of non existing temporality, no time passing, only the one the viewer creates themselves through their movement of their own body and it’s position position

From one side to the other storytelling narration.

this could not be achieved because there where no windows in the gallery in the right position for a projector. Technically too difficult.

Then the next idea was to make a piece for a canvas hung in the middle of the room.

the projection was too risky, the daylight?

it was also difficult to find the right spot to hang the canvas without compromising other people’s work

so we made a box, and the cinematic kind of experience followed. with a bench in front of a screen, speakers.

no headphones as it is a covid risk.

How do you make this experience of the feeling of going from one side to the other from back to front from front to back around going through a door a threshold standing in an entry or departure

what do you do to make the feeling of this experience whilst sitting in front of a screen watching?

the whole piece that I had to make in the last three weeks for a screen inside a box

became a narrated essay film, 15 minutes long begging middle and an end.

I have not thought ever that I would end up doing my MA graduation piece this way, as a narrated story. I came to the MA with the wish to work with temporalities. Non-linear, moving image exploration. moving painting maybe.

I’m surprised with myself, actually quite excited about that what I’ve done the past month worked.

I loved the process, the intensity of working on what became a site specific piece. i am still able to transform this work as moving image painting in the future.
